Reset MySql 5.6 root password on Windows 8

Firstly you need to stop your running instance, go to services and stop it:

Search -> services.msc [enter]

Now create a file inside ‘C:\’ with this SQL:

File: pass.sql

UPDATE mysql.user SET Password=PASSWORD('YOUR_NEW_PASSWORD') WHERE User='root';
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

Open a command prompt as administrator:

1. Create a shortcut on desktop using ‘cmd.exe’ as path;
2. Right click on it and click on “Execute as Administrator”;
3. Go to MySql bin folder and execute this command:

mysqld.exe --init-file=C:\\pass.sql

Test your connection!
